Fresh strawberries smell so good market when you go to the store. AND beautiful to look at! Next to pineapples, which I don’t see very often at my farmer’s markets, I think they might be one of my favorite fruits!
I will show you how to make fusible sewing fun and easy all through my book.
One of my tips is this:
Sloan Market:
I cut through the line to get to the middle when I was taking out the. This way, it’s easy to cut out, and I don’t have to fold the paper and glue, which could separate them.
Try it out and let me know what you think!
This cute strawberry mug rug is an extra project I have for you.
Make a light square. 6.5″ x 6.5″
Take the strawberry cloth and cut it into a square. 6.5″ x 6.5″
Make a back that is 7″ x 13″
Put the strawberries (from my book) on the light square and fuse them.
Join the two pieces together with the thread.
Put the stuffing, backing, and top of the mug rug in order.
It looks like a quilt because I chose to machine blanket stitch the strawberry through ALL of its layers.
On the side with the red polka dots, quilt a little.
Put together and use!
This is the BACK after I blanket-stitched through all the layers:

It’s fun to do projects Market like this where the back isn’t important. It goes faster if you quilt the shapes’ edges.

I enjoy going to the farmer’s market a lot. It could be because my grandmother worked there her whole life. When I was little, my grandfather and I would go to the market to get her from work. She worked at two different stores, one inside and one outside.
We went Market to the meat bar because she worked for Kessler Company. I remember that she gave me a slice of either Lebanon Bologna or sharp cheddar cheese while I stood next to the case. We always got there Market right before she got off work. That meant my grandpa and I could look around.
One block a month for this sew-along sounds easy. When we get to a block, I’ll talk about it. It could be a story, a different way to use the block or a recipe I found.
From next month on, I’ll be putting up the same quilt show every month for a year. That way, we can see… or is it SEW our progress?
It’s going to be so much fun:

It made me laugh when I took the quilt outside to take pictures. Then I made a short slide show. The day we took these pictures was pretty and green.
Here is one of the quilts in my book, “Pat Sloan’s Teach Me to Applique.” It’s like a whole class in a book with quilts to make. Yay me for putting so much in one book for you!
The first thing we need to do for our sew-along is:
Sloan Market:
Get my book out. You’ll need it because the pattern is in it. This is where I’ll sign your copy.
Go HERE to get my book as a digital Sloan Market file. You can also find it at your favorite quilt shops!! A lot of people are sewing along with you, too, so stop by my shop and ask for my book.
Start getting your fabric together. I’d love it if you used your favorite fabrics to make this quilt your own. Why not use some of the special bits you’ve saved for something special for the applique? A one-of-a-kind fabric for the apple, or those little bits of fabric for the leaves?
The next block is every second Wednesday of the month. The squash is in the upper left corner, and I’m
SURE there will be a tasty recipe next month:

When you share a picture, use the phrase #PatSloanFarmersMarket.
Not sure how to do fusible applique? My book tells you everything you need to know. Take a look at this part of the process. You can do this because it’s VERY EASY! You can do hand sewing, and I can see someone red working the quilt. Is that something that’s being planned?
What colors will you use for the border, which is the biggest part of the quilt? This makes sense with aqua, green, and purple! Share your thoughts below!
